EXPERIMENTAL PROCESSES
Phytograms and Chemigrams can also be achieved onto photochemical paper as well as film; this experimental workshop is
pretty simple to do; chemigrams only requiring some form of fogged photochemical material such as film or paper, and a
range of different ‘resists’. A resist is a substance coated on your photographic paper or film to inhibit chemical absorption
beneath. with a back and forth from dev to fix, or fix to dev, the resist begins to dissolve, allowing chemical reaction to
continue taking place in certain areas. resists can be hard or soft- hard resists include nail varnish, wax, glue or adhesive,
resin, felt tip pens or screen prints while soft resists includes things such as oil, acrylic paint, honey and syrups, egg, tape.
whereas a phytogram requires a recipe of water, sodium carbonate, vitamic c, and plants to create the effect; phenols of
the plant act as an agent, vitamin c fastens the process, sodium carbonate creates an alkaline which react with the paper or
film- this mixed with sunlight creates a chemical reaction that imprints the plant onto the paper.
